Early intervention (E.I.) is a publicly funded system of services that support children from birth to age three who have (or are at risk for) a developmental delay or disability. Early intervention is highly effective at helping children learn new skills and/or overcome challenges.
By law, parents and caregivers can request early intervention services if their child meets certain criteria (such as developmental delays, being at risk for developmental delay or disability, or having a developmental disability).
In California, any parent or guardian with a concern can request a screening for services (to determine eligibility) by navigating DDS.
Should you not want to take this route, or if your child is not eligible yet concerns remain, please contact me.

Sessions are typically 60 minutes in length. 45-50 minutes is spent on active therapy, and the remaining 10 minutes focus on parent education, home practice, and documentation.
Evidence-based speech + language strategies are implemented throughout play-based sessions. I want your child to feel comfortable and confident as I weave in therapeutic goals.
Families will be given homework to practice between visits to help aid in progress.
Typically clients attend therapy 1–2 times per week, depending on their needs and goals.

I wish I had an answer to this very valid question! Each child is unique and with different needs. Progress depends on various factors such as: the severity of these needs, responsiveness to therapy, child & family motivation, relevant history, and the implementation of practice and carryover into home and school settings.
I typically review progress and goals with the family every 3-6 months, and we collaboratively make adjustments as needed.
-
You will need a screener and/or evaluation. A full evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that measures communication skills in order to determine if therapy is needed and to set goals. The following with be collected:
Parent interview and developmental history
Play-based assessment and standardized measures
Informal observation of speech, language, and social skills
An evaluation can take anywhere from 1.5 - 4+ hours. A report explaining results and recommendation will be provided to you.
